Very Rare Manuscript: 23 vellum leaves, the beginning of a Book of Hours!
The leaves 1, 2 and 3 are blank, but for a liquid gold panel around each page. Leaf 4 has the text : Almanach pour trente ans. 1570. Followed by 4 pages with the dates of Easter, Advent, etc. for the following 30 years.
Then there are 24 pages with the calendar with all the Saints?days in every month, followed by 8 pages with remarkable notes of the 12 months, e.g. how to decide the date of Easter, how many hours of sun light to expect, etc.
All these pages are in French and all are decorated with large initials with flowers, leaves, fruits and one insect! The scribe used dark brown and bright red ink and wrote in a very fine rounded roman hand, many initials are decorated with gold, red and blue. The large initials are surrounded by small renaissance pictures of flowers!
The last page has : HEURES DE NOSTRE DAME.
