Description
This very rare and unrecorded double-hemisphere world map, with an unusually dark etched border containing the title cartouche, astronomical illustrations ( circular diagrams of sun, moon, planets, and Solar System ) and geographic definitions. On the map Cook's routs are marked with little ships.
Relief shown pictorially. Also shows lines of magnetic variation and marine wind-direction arrows.
This map is not listed in any standard reference, is not in the British Library Catalogue, NYPL Catalog, OCLC or any other list we consulted. Only two institutional examples are recorded: Library of Congress, Washington ( Acquisition in 2002), National Library of Australia (Acquisition in April., 2002 from Richard B. Arkway /Catalog 52-Item No.: 8, in 2001, price - $ 16.000.-).
An article on John Evans appeared in The Map Collector, #46 [Spring 1989] which provided a list of his known works, but no world map was listed.
An attractive example with early hand color in nice condition.

Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
