Description
Folio-size hand-colored copper engraving with a city view of Assisi (semi bird’s eye view). Bottom left a scrolling cartouche (not filled in). Extensive legend at the bottom a-z and 1-43.
On the left, there’s the famous basilica di San Francesco. This church in Assisi is the mother church of the Franciscans. The Franciscans or friars are a religious order consisting of followers of Francis of Assisi. Francis was from Umbria (Italy) and together with his companions he donated all of his possessions to the poor to live a life of pure poverty himself.
The basilica consists of three parts. The base forms the crypt with the tomb of the holy Saint Francis of Assisi. On top of this, two churches were built: the lower basilica (1228-1230) and the upper basilica (1230-1253).
Although there’s a large difference between the sombre character of the lower church and the brighter character of the upper church, both are clear examples of Italian Gothic architecture from that period. The campanile is Romanesque. Published by Joan Blaeu in Italian cities book from 1663.

Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
