Description
A rare, copperplate map, with colored borders of the British Isles. Berey has closely copied Sanson's separately issued map of 1640. Berey's imprint in the right-hand cartouche replaces that of Tavernier.
Nicolas Berey (1608-1665) was a map publisher, colorist, and the father-in-law of Jaillot. Although his original oeuvre is small [and now rarely seen on the market], he did copy numerous maps by the leading cartographers of the day, including Blaeu, Hondius, and Sanson.
