A decorative image of people & animals, with a map of southern Africa after Tachard. The people depicted are the Hottentots and the Namaquas of the Cape of Good Hope.
The animals depicted are the zebra, rhino, grand lizard, hippo, snake (cobra?) chameleon, small lizard and an antelope. Additional text in French describes the region of the Cape of Good Hope, customs of the people, etc.
The map (about 125 x 105 mm) is from Guy Tachard's 1686 travel book about the Cape.
