Description

Very rare edition of this popular atlas by Nicolas Sanson, published by Arnout van Ravestein, in Amsterdam, in 1699.
Pastoureau only mentions a Dutch version of Sanson's atlas, first published in Utrecht by Johannes Ribbius (1683) and by F.Halma in Amsterdam 1700 (1708). A German version was published by Zunner in Franckfurt in 1679. Koeman also mentions a 1692 edition by Johannes Luyts. For these editions Antoine de Winter re-engraved the copper plates.
This 1699 is unrecorded ! Koeman lists for the Halma edition of 1700 (1709) 74 maps; apparently the map of "Le Marquisat et l'Electorat de Brandenbourg" was added at a later date as it is not included in our our example and also not called for in the index.

Provenance : Bernard Chérin. Fine example with the coats of arms of Bernard Chérin. Appointed genealogist to the orders of the King in 1773, ennobled in 1774 and historiographer of the King in 1776, he died in Paris in 1785 leaving a considerable library on genealogy and heraldry.

Shipping

Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.
The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
