Rare engraved globe gores for a pair of 20 cm (8 inch) diameter globes published in Nuremberg, and engraved by J.C. Weigel.
Two sets of 12 globe gores on 4 sheets, together with 2 uncolored sheets of the meridian ring, horizon and compass cap for the two globes, each sheet 360 x 420 mm.
The terrestrial sheets are uncolored, the celestial gores with hand coloring, all the sheets signed "Joh. Christoph Weigel excudit."

A fine set of the Habrecht globe gores originally issued in 1621 / 1625, but here re-engraved by Johann Christoph Weigel (1654-1726), a Nuremberg engraver and map seller, in the later part of the 17th century, probably around 1675.
Auction records list just one celestial set in the last 25 years sold in Germany in 2003.

Stevenson notes the rarity of the Halbrecht globes as originally published, and describes the terrestrial globe's interesting antecedents, tracing the lineage from Blaeu via Hondius, noting that the loxodromic lines 'are made a conspicuous feature of the map', the prime meridian runs through the island of Corvo in the Azores.
