Description
Frontispiece of the sixth part of the Civitates, here implicated, colored and heightened with gold by Mrs. Anna Beek. The engraver and publisher of prints, Mrs. Anna Beek of the Hague, enlarged this title page, originally published by Braun and Hogenberg in 1620.
The title print itself is also rare as it was originally made for the rare sixth volume of the town books.
Anna Beek was commissioned by Willem III of Orange, inbetween 1690 and 1700 and produced for him a collection of 10 volumes of plates. The 10 volumes are bound in richly gilded bindings and have all the Dutch Roral coat-of-arms of arms.
These volumes came on the market in the 1960's and were spilt up and sold in the European trade in the 1960's.
This plate originates from one of the volumes, it is a unica and made for and in the collection Willem III of Orange.
