Description
A revolutionary war sea chart of Gonâve Island, an island of Haiti located west-northwest of Port-au-Prince in the Gulf of Gonâve. It is the largest of the Hispaniolan satellite islands.
It includes also the coasts of Haiti, with Saint-Marc, Port-au-Prince, Leogane, Petit, and Grand Goave. Highly detailed, and filled with numerous depth soundings, navigational hazards, anchorage places, etc. At the top is the engraved seal of the 'Depot General de la Marine'.
Prepared under the direction of the Comte de la Luzerne for the use of the French Navy when they came over to America in order to help in the Revolutionary War. A well engraved and highly detailed chart that was issued in Neptune americo-septentrionale.
