Description
Christopher Saxton’s sumptuous county map of Hampshire together with the northern part of the Isle of Wight, first issued in 1575, 'Corected & many Additions by P. Lea' for his edition of 1689.
With an inset plan of Winchester, upper left, title cartouche center-right with the royal arms just below, plus the coats-of-arms of the Earls of Winchester, lower left, and those of the Earls of Southampton, lower right, ships and sea monsters in the Solent and the English Channel.
Philip Lea erased some of Saxton's earlier decoration, substituted the plan of Winchester, added boundaries and names of the county hundreds, the roads and title.
Lea's alterations were part of a continuing process of enriching Saxton's plates and altering Latin to English, this began in about 1665, though the plates were not printed then the additions are mainly from John Speed's map.

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
