Description
An attractive and rare bird's-eye view of Melinde harbour in Mozambique, engraved by Jan Deutecum for Linschoten's 'Itinerario', published between 1596 and 1644. Probably shown is the city of Madimba on the Mozambique river, the frontier between Mozambique and Kenya.
Full title in Latin and Dutch in an Antwerp style cartouche at left: 'Insulae et arcis Mocambique deschriptio ad fines Melinde sitae ebano puris. auro et ambare odorato affluentis hinc magnus semiorum numerus in Indiam abducitur, JHVLinschoten inuent. / Beschryvinge des Eylants en slot Mocambique gelegen op de grensen Melinde seer ryck van Ebanhout, fijn gout en Ambargrys, waer aff veel slauen naer Indyen wech gevoert werden door Jan Huijgen van Linschoten.

The view shows the fortifications of the city, which is on an island, with numerous ships flying the Portuguese standard at anchor in the protected harbour. The map is finely engraved and decorated with a large compass rose, the Portuguese coat of arms, and title cartouche with the title in both Latin and Dutch.
At top left a text in Latin by P.H. Hoogerb. (=Pieter Hoogerbeets): 'Densas sijluce ebanos aurom mihi viscera terae Ambara fert pretio littus odore pari auferri haec telrabile nu quoq: pubem Auehert pelago dira cupido meam. PHoogerb'.
In the top right corner a hand is depicted emerging from a cloud, bearing a flag, showing a globe.

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
