Description
Uncommon map of England. This large one-sheet map of England and Wales was produced by the Venetian cosmographer Vincenzo Coronelli when he was working in Paris in the 1680's. It pre-dates Coronelli's map of Britain on two sheets which was printed in his Atlante Veneto in 1691. Tillemon, who corrected and amended the map, was Coronelli's collaborator in Paris and J.B.Nolin was their publisher.
Nolin must have published this map separately on several occasions as it is not regularly found in atlas form.
This is the first edition, dated 1689 just below the privilege concluding the publisher's imprint, and hence the dedication to James II of England is anachronistic, reflecting French sympathies with the Royal Pretender at that time 'over the waters' in France.
The original date is consistent with James's ill-judged attempt to recover his kingdoms by landing in Ireland in March 1689, and before his defeat at the Battle of the Boyne in July 1690.

Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
