A copperplate, hand-colored map showing the french civil war. Includes a chart with the roads.
The map refers to the Camisards' rebellion in the Cévennes mountains between 1702 and 1710. This peasant uprising opposed 3,000 rebels or Camisards to 20-25,000 royal dragoons fighting to restore religious tolerance. Not only was this effectively the last French war of religion, but it was also supported by a Protestant coalition led by England and the Dutch Republic, who aimed to defeat Louis from within his own borders.
In 1703, Nolin thus revised not only the title of his map to emphasize the insurgents’ fanaticism, but he also added an out-of-scale imaginary mountain behind the title at the top left corner, from which armed soldiers are looking at the Cévennes. Nolins’ map became the reference to illustrate the events of the moment and was immediately reproduced in Holland. It appeared the same year in Rotterdam under Henri de la Feuille as Le Théâtre de la guerre dans les Sévennes and featured in Staat En Beschryvinge Der Sevennes.

Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
