Description
A beautiful leaf from a Paris Book of Hours, printed on vellum by Hardouin, who had his workshop near Notre Dame. The many initials are done by hand in bright colors : red, blue and liquid gold. The pictures are metal cuts and depict stories of the Old and New Testament on the recto and a horse and putti on the verso. Here the some verses from the Apocalyps: Revelation 20:1 Vidi angelum descendentem de caelo habentem clavem abyssi et catenam magnam in manu sua?.
The main text is from the Hours of the Virgin, None, and to help you read it here is the transcription and translation of part of the text, beginning on the recto with the initial ?B?:[ it is psalm 127] Beati omnes qui timent Dominum qui ambulant in viis eius Blessed are all they that fear the Lord: that walk in his ways.
