The Holy Trinity and Saint Michael.
Vellum leaf from a French Book of Hours, late 15th century, probably Paris.
This leaf has two miniatures: one of 43 x 45 mm and the other 43 x 50 mm.
De sanctissima trinitate anti [ phon.], on the recto. God the Father [ with the whole wide world in His hand!] and the Son, holding an open book and the Holy Ghost in the form af a dove in a halo. The three sided border has geometrical figures in bright colors, acanthus leaves, flowers and a bird!
On the verso a lively miniature of the Archangel Michael, slaying Lucifer. This leaf has the same border as the recto, including the bird.
There are three wonderful initials in red, blue and gold leaf with flowers and a strawberry. The text is in French and Latin.
