A wonderful bible leaf, written on vellum around 1250 in Paris!!
There are 42 lines in a very regular gothic book hand. One initial is beautifully decorated in gold, red and blue with a monster inside and a long tail extending into the margin !! The name of the book is at the top in red and blue.
The text is from the book Ezechiel and the beginning of the prologue to Daniel. It is quite difficult to read because of the very small letters and the many abbreviations used. Here is the transcription of the last part of Ezechiel chapter 48 on the verso:
[et super terminum Gad ad plagam austri in meridiem et erit finis de Thamar usque ad aquas Contradictionis Cades hereditas] contra mare magnum haec est terra quam mittetis in sortem tribubus Israhel et hae partitiones earum ait Dominus Deus
