Description
Calendar leaf on vellum from a French Book of Hours, written around 1470 in or near Rouen. The decoration on the recto has flowers and leaves in bright colors and gold. The leaf is part of the calendar for the month of October, at the top we read KL for calendar.
A liturgical calendar showing feast days of the church year, both fixed, like Christmas, and ?movable? (depending on cycles of the moon), like Easter. Important feast days were written in red ink, hence the expression, ?red-letter day.?
