Description
Leaf on vellum from a French Book of Hours, written around 1490. A beautiful vellum leaf from the calendar in a Book of Hours. This leaf details the month of August beginning with the number of days and moons, followed by the saint's days (with the more important ones written in red). The large initials KL for calendar and the A initials (for Sundays) are beautifully illuminated in red, blue, white and burnished gold leaf.
