Description
Large scale chart of the present day Naha harbour at Okinawa in the Japan Sea. With several coastal profiles, scale and vignette of Hydrographical office. Map nr. 990.
Prepared by Frederick William Beechey (17 February 1796 – 29 November 1856) who was an English naval officer and geographer. Engraved by J. & C.Walker and "published according to Act of Parliament at the Hydrographical Office of the Admiralty Jan. 15th 1835".
Frederick William Beechey was born in London. In 1806, he entered the Royal Navy, and saw active service during the wars with France and America. In 1818, he served under Lieutenant (afterwards Sir) John Franklin in David Buchan's Arctic expedition, of which at a later period he published a narrative.
In 1825, Beechey was appointed to command the HMS Blossom. His task was to explore the Bering Strait in concert with Franklin and Parry operating from the east. In the summer of 1826, he passed the strait and a barge from his ship reached 71°23'31" N., and 156°21'30" W. near Point Barrow which he named, a point only 146 miles west of that reached by Franklin's expedition from the Mackenzie river.
The whole voyage lasted more than three years and in the course of it Beechey discovered several islands in the Pacific, and an excellent harbour near Cape Prince of Wales.

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
