Description
A handsome and well-engraved world map constructed with the prime meridian through Paris. The hemispheres are rotated through 45 degrees. This is an unusual projection for a world map based on the French Academie Royale des Sciences.
The map is of interest for the use of Mer de Corée.

This particular impression is by Remondini, who reissued Santini’s “Atlas Univ.” in 1784.
"A Venise Chez Francois Santini, rue Ste. Justine pres la dite Eglise." A 'view from space' of the earth's hemispheres; the hemispheres selected are the maritime and terrestrial, or 'water' and 'land' hemispheres. This map is quite rare in having the land and water hemispheres as the main subject; these usually supplement polar or equatorial views of the world. Probably from Paolo Santini's Atlas Universel, between 1776 and 1781. Includes 350-word commentary on why the oblique south polar and north polar views were chosen. The terrestrial hemisphere, we are told, is not centered on Paris and the Paris meridian purely for patriotic reasons but according to scientific principles.

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
