Description
A rare chart of Europe's coastline from northern Russia to Yugoslavia in the south, also showing the West Coast of Africa as far as the Cape-Verdian islands.
The uncommon 1679 edition who was emended with small compass roses, sea monster and with land north of Iceland "t'Lant van Broer Ruys op gedaen Anno 1655", "Baay door Gael Hamkes opgedaen An° 1654" and "'t Lant van Edam opgedaen 1655".
In 1650, when Anthony (Theunis) Jacobsz transferred his plates for his Zeespiegel to Pieter Goos, he had to cut new plates. His son Jacob must have taken care of it, as the father died in 1650.
The new plates were used for a new version with (for the greater part) old text of the Zeespiegel, now published under a new title : Nieuw en groote Lootsmans Zeespiegel. The first edition known is of 1662, but it is likely that an older edition exist.
Although the charts show a great similarity with the older ones, they contain many minor differences. Of the 1662 edition, only one copy of the atlas of the first part is known to exist.
From 1679 the copperplate was emended with small compass roses and with land north of Iceland.

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
