Description
EXTREMELY RARE issue, printed for C.Barlaeus, and before included in the Blaeu Atlas Major. Extends from the Rio San Francisco to the Rio Gujaraigacu.
This map is one the first maps of Brazil based on Dutch rather than Portuguese interest. The Dutch West India Company, appointed Count Johan Maurits Governor-General of Dutch Brazil in 1636 and was in power until 1644. Upon Maurits return to Europe, he commissioned Kaspar van Baerle to document the flora and fauna, climate, inhabitants, religion, and languages of the coastal provinces of Brazil.
The resulting work, "Rerum per octennium in Brasilia" published by Blaeu's, is one of the finest works of Brazil ever produced.
The maps in this work, with alterations, later appeared in later editions Blaeu's "Atlas Major", with this particular impression coming from a 1665 Dutch text printing.
This detailed map is highly embellished with cartouches, coats of arms, ships and a sea battle. The large scene on the upper quarter of the map depict the commercially important sugar cane industry.

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
