Description
This beautiful old colored engraved map is signed on plate by Nicolas Iohannis Visscher, and by the engraver Abraham Goos on lower left. The border is decorated with 12 views of the most important cities, basically following Braun & Hogenberg s Civitates Orbis Terrarum: Rome, Naples, Venice, Florence, Genoa, Verona are on the upper part, Parma, Siena, Pozzuoli and Velletri are in the lower one. On the two sides, 16 costumed figures are depicted, taken from the” Habiti antichi et moderni di tutto il mondo” iconography published in 1590 by Cesare Vecellio. Besides the borders, the map is also ornated with coats-of-arms, galleons and sea monsters.
Around 1625 Visscher published a new prototype of map with a decorative border which has been then copied by Janssonius and Jodocus Hondius jr.
According to Gunter Schilder, in the VI volume of his Monumenta Cartographica Neerlandici there are four editions of this map : the first doesn’t show any date in the cartouche, while in the others the dates are 1630, 1633 and 1652.

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
