Description
Full title in a cartouche at the top of sheet one: Tabula Itineraria Ex Illustri Peutingerorum Biblitheca Quae Augustae Vindel. Est Beneficio Marci Velseri Septemviri Augustani In Lucem Edita. The dedication is to Marcus Welser, the original owner of the Tabula.
A fine and very rare example of Ortelius's four-sheet map of the famous Peutinger map, an illustrated itinerarium, or road map showing the layout of the Roman Empire’s road network. The map stretches from Europe, excluding Britain and the Iberian Peninsula, through North Africa and parts of the Middle East, Persia, and India.
It is based on a thirteenth-century manuscript document once owned by Konrad Peutinger, now in the Austrian National Library in Vienna.
Originally in separate sheets published by Moretus in Antwerp 1598, this version was published either by Bertius in Theatrum Geographicae Veteris 1619, or by Ortelius in his 'Parergon', or historical atlas of the ancient world, in 1624.
It is the most reliable representation and one of the earliest obtainable printed examples of the important Peutinger map.
Dare to go in Black. All early maps are printed in black and white and many were kept that way for a long time. A black and white map in an early and strong impression is a rarity now-a-days being so many colored up recently!

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
