Description
Very attractive and decorative early 17th century frontispiece from Camden's Britannia.
Below the title, a map of Britain, inscribed with the Latin names places and tribes; above the title, a cartouche depicting the figure of Britannia, with shield and spear, seated on a rock beside the sea; to the left of the title, a bearded and nude male figure with crown and trident, accompanied by various marine animals and a large fish wrapped around one leg; to the right of the title, a female figure holding wheat; bottom left, a ship; bottom right, a cathedral; bottom centre, a cartouche depicting buildings, baths, and Stonehenge.
William Camden was the father of antiquarian studies in Britain. He first published Britannia in Latin in 1586. It is the first thorough account of Roman Britain and also discusses the peoples of Britain before and immediately after the Romans.

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
Hold Shipment Service
