Description
Extremely rare map of the environs of Tripoli with a fortification plan of Tripoli in the center. Extensive shipping in the sea.
The print is addressed and dated Ven.l'anno 1567. Alla libraria della Colonna.
Engraved by Paolo Furlani (active 1561-1577), his address was all'insegna della Colonna. (Thieme Becker, XII,599).
One of the earliest printed views of the town.
Published in Giulio Ballino, Civitatum Aliquot Insigniorum, et locorum, magis munitorum exacta delineatio: Cum omnium quae ad eorum historiam pertinent, breui enarratione. Several plates where used by Braun and Hogenberg for their Civitates orbis Terrarum.
The printer Bolognino Zaltieri used copper plates by different engravers, most plates are engraved by Paolo Furlani (active 1561-1577), others by Domenico Zenoi (fl. ca. 1557-1562) or Girolamo Olgiato.
The Civitatum Aliquot Insigniorum is printed in 1567-1569 in 3 editions and all are different and very rare, only one or a handful copies are known of each edition.
Philips recalls a copy (5387) but the page numbers do not correspondent with the numbers on the verso of this print.
Collector's item. An unique opportunity to acquire a fine example from an town view from the early Lafreri school.!

Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
