Description
Two engraved panoramic views on one double-page engraved map sheet, key below each view. The town seen from the north and south. Title in Latin and English.
Rare early view of Edinburgh.
The first Scot to compile accurate town plans and prospects for publication was James Gordon c.1615-1686. Gordon assisted his father in the compilation of the first printed Atlas of Scotland, published by Johannes Blaeu in 1654. Gordon also supplied Blaeu with a plan of Edinburgh, and two views of the city to be used as inserts. However, Blaeu chose to engrave the views as a separate sheet, but for some reason did not include either the plan or sheet of views in the Atlas.
The plate was later re-issued by Frederick de Wit with his imprint inserted, in his town books of Europe.
This early version without de Wit's imprint is particularly rare. Last recorded copy, 10 years ago sold at Sotheby's for 2,070 GBP.

Shipping
Maps are shipped in solid tubes or flat between solid cardboard. Fully insured, signature required, and with online tracking. Shortly after shipment, you will get the tracking number by email.The standard is that we ship items by UPS or DHL for European destinations, and a flat shipping fee is added to each shipment. It is a one-time fee even if you buy multiple items. This fee covers shipping and insurance (up to the invoice amount) to:
- North America, Canada, Europe $ 30
- Asia $ 40
- For South America, Mauritius, Africa and Australia a shipping fee of $ 50 will be charged.
We charge only a one-time shipping fee if you have won 2 or more items.
