Description
A wonderful arch-topped miniature of a funeral service : the coffin under a blue cloth, to the left the mourners, to the right the clergy. The room is divided into two parts by a pink-and-gold cloth and the large window shows a distant landscape.
Around the miniature there are acanthus leaves [ also in grey!], flowers, a naked person and another figure fully clothed. The whole painting is rubbed, but the high quality of the work is still visible! In the margin is a dark brown stain. The Book of Hours is probably from Rouen in France and made around 1450.
