A scarce map of the Ancient World. It includes plenty of french text and remarkably decorative borders found only in the deluxe edition of Buy De Mornas' 'Atlas Methodique et Elementaire de Goegraphie et l'Histoire'.
According to the ancient Greek mythology, the World was divided between the main Gods and brothers, - Jupiter getting the ancient Greek World [Greece, Balkans, Minor Asia, and Phoenicia], - Pluto [later passed to Mercury] the western known World, - Neptune the Mediterranean sea, - and last Japetus and his son Atlas today's Maghreb [the Maghreb mountain range still today named 'Atlas.']
