Description
Depicting Scandinavia in a trapezoidal projection, being one of the earliest obtainable modern maps of Scandinavia. The map combines Ptolemaic and modern cartographic information.
Norway is separated from Greenland by a narrow strait and Iceland is depicted as a long, thin island called Thule. Scotland is in the lower left corner.
Girolamo Ruscelli's edition of Ptolemy's Geographia included newly engraved copperplates by Giulio and Livio Sanuti. In 1574 a new plate was used which lasted until the final edition of 1599.
